Dr. Shen received his PhD degree from Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in 2015. Before joining HKUST as a Research Assistant Professor, Dr. Shen was an Alexander von Humboldt research fellow at the Institute for Composite Materials (IVW GmbH) in Kaiserslautern, Germany. Dr. Shen is working in the field of graphene and graphene related materials for multifunctional applications. His research is focused on the rational synthesis of 2D graphene and its 3D polymer composites to form a functional material, as well as the understanding of mechanisms behind the structure-property relationship through a multiscale modeling approach. The goal is to develop functional composites with improved electrical and thermal conductivities without degrading their mechanical properties and fracture toughness.
