Second HKUST-Technion Joint Workshop held on 23 April 2018

The second HKUST-Technion Joint Workshop was held on campus on 23 April 2018, which is a continuation of the first joint workshop at the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology on 29 June 2016.  Purpose of the joint workshop was to explore future research strategies and potential collaborations between Technion and HKUST.  The members of the delegation from Technion included 7 faculty members, 1 research associate and 2 PhD students.  Prof. Yoram Halevi, Dean, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, was head of this delegation.  HKUST team was led by Prof. Christopher Chao, members included 11 MAE faculty members, 1 CBE faculty member, 3 postdoctoral fellows and a number of RPG students.

The workshop covered a variety of ME and AE related research topics.  Major topics included Controls, Computational Geometry, Molecular Dynamics, Nano/Micro Mechanics of Materials, Multi-phase flows, Composite/Smart Materials, Aeroaoustics, Aerodynamics and Building Services.  At the event, MAE representatives engaged in vigorous discussion on the topics with Technion counterparts and came up with some new research ideas.  MAE will continue to engage Technion in facilitating academic exchange and fostering research-oriented collaboration between the two institutions in the long run.
