The 2018 International Contest of Applications in Nano-Micro Technology (iCAN 2018) Final, co-chaired by Prof. Yi-Kuen Lee, Prof. Norman Tien and Prof. Alice Zhang, was successfully held at HKUST on 23-25 June 2018, with the co-sponsorship by Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) and Centre of Integrated Micro Systems (CIMS) of HKUST. The competition was a synergy among academic institutions such as HKU, HKUST, Peking University and industrial corporations, including Alibaba Cloud IoT, ERA Spread Limited, Realmax, Xfab, CECport, DJI, BOC and HSBC.
There were 23 teams from 10 countries and regions selected as the finalists for the competition and presented their innovative products. The projects “Aeroband” from Beijing University of Science and Technology and “HEAT it” from Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) were awarded with first prize in the competition. The project, “Executive Chef,” from HKUST MAE students, Yuk Ching Leung, Zhangji Lu, Qu Yang and Yuchun Song, was awarded with Honorable Prize.

iCAN—— International Contest of innovation
iCAN International Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition (the iCAN Contest) started in China since 2007, and has been extended globally in 2010 which attracted students, professors and industries worldwide. iCAN is “The Dreaming Stage For Global Innovative Genius”. With the spirit of iCAN, “confidence, persistence, dream” iCAN devotes to inspire the passion of youth innovation, advocate science and technology innovation and entrepreneurship to serve the society, establish platform for high-tech innovation and entrepreneurship to create applications for high-tech, especially in micro and nano technology, Internet of things, intelligent manufacturing, Industry 4.0, etc.
The iCAN 2019 will be held in 23-27 June in Berlin, Germany.
