Research Opportunities (招收研究生信息)
Ph.D. Positions (招收博士生1到2名)
The mission of our lab is to solve coupled multiphase, multicomponent, optical, electro, mechanical and thermal/fluid dynamic problems posed by the development of nano/microfluidics, sensor and actuators, and biomedical treatments/devices. Ph. D student positions are available from time to time. Candidates are sought in the area of fluid flows, heat/mass transfer, nano/microfluidics, materials, optical sensors, diagnostics, MEMS, and instrumentation.
Potential Topics for Doctoral Dissertation Research under supervision of Prof. H.-H. Qiu
The research topics below are available for incoming graduate students. Please feel free to send an e-mail at meqiu@ust.hk for more information.
· Advanced Measurement techniques for Micro/Nano
Fluid Flows
· Micro/Nanoscale multiphase and multicomponent flows
· Electro-optical Microsystems
· Biomedical microsystems
· Optical diagnostics for microfluidics
· Silicon-glass based microsensors and actuators
· Electroosmotic pumps and electrophoretic
separation
· Detection systems for a micromixer/-reactor
For the Ph.D. students, we ask: a MSc. (or equivalent) in fluid/thermal engineering or physics/chemistry or material science, precision instrument and optical electronic engineering with a focus on one of the followings: transport and optical diagnostics in multiphase flows; nano/microtechnology/NEMS/MEMS; sensor development; and micro fluid flows and heat transfer; proven affinity with good mastering of the English language (TOEFL>=80, IELTS>=6.0); and good communication skills.
We offer: a dynamic, multidisciplinary and international environment at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. The successful Ph.D. student will be awarded a studentship at HK$13,400 per month.
Interested candidates are invited to apply before March 10, 2011
(For Fall Semester 2011/12) or October 10, 2011 (For Spring Semester 2011/12)
