Visiting Associate Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering

Dr Wenbin Song holds a PhD. degree in computational engineering from the University of Southampton, UK and a BEng in aerospace engineering from Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Beijing, China. He worked as research fellow at Rolls-Royce University Technology Center at Southampton before joining Shanghai Jiao Tong University as Associate Professor in 2009.
Teaching and conducting research in the fields of aircraft design, computational engineering covering computational aerodynamics and aeroacoustics, multidisciplinary design optimization and aviation economics. Strong links with both international and domestic aerospace industry.

Teaching Activities

Course leader for aircraft design at the both undergraduate and advanced, multidisciplinary aircraft design at the Graduate level for the School of Aeronautics and Astronautics, SJTU. Courses taught also include: technical English for graduate students.

Research Interests

  • Aircraft design – conceptual aircraft design and optimization for efficiency and environment; aerodynamic shape optimization of complex 3D shapes; analysis of value models of civil aircraft and value-based design; methods and tools for multi-objective tradeoff and optimization for efficiency and noise; development and application of computational intelligence methods in aerospace engineering, surrogate-based high-fidelity design
  • Computational Aerodynamics and Aeroacoustics – development of fundamental numerical methods for flow simulation; development of computational techniques for noise prediction and reduction; flow control for drag reduction – passive and active flow control methods and implementation including laminar flow control
