Prof. Larry Li receives SENG Distinguished Teaching Award 2016-2017
Prof. Larry Li has received the School of Engineering (SENG) Distinguished Teaching Award 2016-17. The SENG Teaching Excellence Appreciation Award is presented annually to a maximum of four faculty members who are able to demonstrate consistent excellence in undergraduate teaching, foster students’ interest in advanced subject matter, and develop innovative pedagogical methods to enhance engineering education for undergraduate students. One of the recipients of this award is then selected to receive the Distinguished Teaching Award.

Prof. Larry Li is actively engaged in enhancing traditional pedagogy with experiential learning and out-of-class activities. He has developed a new experiential course on aerospace engineering and secured a Teaching Development Grant (TDG) from the Center for Education Innovation (CEI) to create an innovative online gaming platform to improve student understanding of aerodynamics and aircraft performance. Apart from his strong commitment to teaching, he is engaged with students through out-of-class learning activities, such as being the faculty lead of two student societies – Aeronautics Interest Group (AIG) and AIAA HKUST Student Branch – coordinating an annual aviation study tour and the HKUST Aero Day, a flagship event bringing together students, faculty, industry and governmental organizations from around Hong Kong and the Pearl-River-Delta region. He has also led HKUST student teams to a variety of international aerospace competitions, including a 17th place finish (out of 95 teams) in the 2017 international AIAA Design-Build-Fly Competition.
