Learning & Mentoring
The ME Mentor Program aims to connect undergraduates with our volunteers in one-on-one mentoring relationships for career planning and goals. We hope to bring together students who have begun to think about what they want to do after college with experienced alumni/friends who are eager to share their insights about life in the world beyond academics. We want to help develop a structured mentor-mentee relationship that requires two-way participation in a continuous run. Our students gain their personal and social growth as well as their career path planning from this program. In addition, the Mentors have the opportunity to reconnect with HKUST and share with students their extensive experiences in their life and career. To be productive, there must be a reciprocal, trusting relationship between Mentor and Mentee. This relationship takes time to build, but at its best, it is a powerful personal relationship with a strong potential to positively influence student attitudes and behavior.

Benefits for the Mentee include:
  • An opportunity to expand your view of the university
  • Introduction to positive role models who have gone through similar experiences
  • Friendship and guidance
  • Career networking
  • An outlet to discuss concerns
  • Developing communication skills

Benefits for the Mentor include:
  • Gaining new insights into School, Faculty and University operations and culture, as well as their own current practice
  • A chance to actively assist the professional development of a colleague
  • Enhanced self-esteem and confidence
  • Developing leadership and interpersonal skills
